Premium Square Scoring Guide
The Scrabble board has premium squares that multiply either a single letter's value or the entire word's score. Using them strategically is the difference between average and expert play.
Triple Word Score (TW)
Multiplies the entire word score × 3. The most powerful square on the board. Located at corners and edges. A 10-point word becomes 30 points.
Double Word Score (DW)
Multiplies the entire word × 2. Includes the center star (your opening move). Common throughout the board. A 10-point word becomes 20 points.
Triple Letter Score (TL)
Triples the value of one letter. Most effective when a high-value tile (J, Q, X, Z) lands on it. Q on TL = 30 points for that letter alone.
Double Letter Score (DL)
Doubles the value of one tile. The most common premium square. Still meaningful with J or X tiles: J on DL = 16 points for that letter.
Bingo bonus: Playing all 7 tiles in one turn earns an extra 50 points added after all other scoring. The finder adds this automatically when you select "Bingo" — or when your word uses all 7 rack letters.
